Literature Circles #3

In this discussion, My group and I were talking about Thunder Cave and were sharing ideas and answering questions about the book like what we normally did but we all noticed That Jacob the main character in the book had passed out in the African plains because of dehydration and Supeet saves him. Now in the later chapters of the book Supeet is also becoming more of a main charter in the book. The story still comes from Jacobs point if view but Supeet is kind of stealing the spotlight from Jacob. Jacob is the main character in the book but I predict that Supeet might be as or even more important than Jacob in the book. I think that Supeet makes the book more interesting because you will get so many more questions abut the book which make it more interesting. I feel that Supeet and Jacob have much in common. They are both determent to find what they are looking for without giving up, they both are very creative and they both have a great sense of humor. This is why I think that the book would not be the same without Supeet or Jacob. Them traveling together makes the story more interesting. I cant imagine the story without either character.

Literature Circles #2

One of the important passages that I wrote on my discussion sheet about Thunder Cave was When Jacob Got his Visa to permit him to get into Kenya. I thought this was important because his whole plan to go to Kenya and find his father could be ruined if he did not get his Visa to enter Kenya. M group agreed that this was an important part in the book and my explanation was alright but we decided to find out more.

My group and I had some ideas like what if Jacob had not gotten his visa ? We answered that question and our answer was he could have found out if there were any planes or boats that were going to Africa and hide himself in the cargo area. Once he arrived, He could use the money he saved to get him some transport to get to Kenya.

Before the discussion I did not realize how important this part of the story is. Now after the discussion I have a deeper understanding of not just that passage but the chapters we had to read. The discussion really helps me understand the parts of th book i do not understand and helps me have a deeper understanding of the parts I do understand.

literature circles

Literature circles is a very good idea because I think it's good to share our opinions about the book and make predictions with our group. I think our group would have been better if all our group members did the the literature circles homework. Discussing what we thought of the book made me thing of how this happened and why. I had questions I had never though of and was able to answer them with the help of my group members.

The book we were reading was called "Thunder Cave" it was written by Roland smith. First our group discussed what we thought was important in the book. Most of us though the part when Jacobs mother died was a key part in the book. We then Asked questions about the book. The person who asked the question would tell us what he thought, then we would say what we thought and from that we make a solution. From all these questions I thought of many more questions about that. We then discussed words that we did not understand. There were lot of passages we did not understand too. From this I was able to get a better understanding of the book. Then we predicted what would happen in the next few chapters of the book. After much discussion going on we reached the idea of Jacob would go to Africa and travel across the savanna to find his father.

This activity was very helpful to me for making me understand more about the book. The key SLR's I used were: communicate effectively, Think creatively and Reason critically because I think I communicated effectively by talking with my group, Think creatively by thinking about how this will happen and Reasoning critically because I spoke f what I thought was important. Literature circles is a great activity and it is fun.
